Headline: Roman Catholic Bishops to Present "Quinquennial" Reports to Pope Leo XIV

Leadership from the Antilles Episcopal Conference (AEC) is currently finalizing preparations for their Ad Limina Apostolorum visit to Rome, which begins this Monday, April 27. The Roman Catholic bishops representing territories across the Caribbean will meet with Pope Leo XIV and various Vatican departments to discuss the state of faith in the region.

The core of the visit involves the presentation of "Quinquennial Reports." These documents offer a comprehensive five-year overview of the Roman Catholic Church's social and spiritual engagement in the Antilles, focusing specifically on the impact of climate change, regional economic hardship, and the ongoing mission to engage Caribbean youth.

Ecumenical & Denominational Moves

Methodist Global Solidarity Visit to Cuba Concludes

A high-level international delegation, including leaders from the World Methodist Council and the World Council of Churches, concluded a pastoral solidarity visit to Havana this week. The visit, which took place as the region navigated heightened humanitarian risks due to fuel shortages, served to bolster local Methodist and ecumenical congregations.

Leaders witnessed firsthand the "acute humanitarian risks" facing the vulnerable and called for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic solutions to regional tensions rather than military confrontation.

Anglican Youth Synod: "Navigating Faith in the 868"

The Anglican Church in the Diocese of Trinidad and Tobago recently hosted its Youth Synod 2026 at the St. Thomas Parish Hall in Chaguanas. Under the theme "Navigating Faith in the 868," young people from across the twin-island republic gathered to discuss the intersection of their Anglican identity with modern cultural challenges. The synod emphasized leadership development and a "disciple-first" approach to community service.

Regional Mission & Church Growth

Lutheran World Federation Leadership Training

From April 19–24, scholarship holders and alumni from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), including representatives from the Caribbean and Latin America, gathered for intensive leadership training. The program focused on "inclusive leadership" and the concept of the "Body of Christ," encouraging Lutheran leaders to return to their home islands with renewed strategies for collaborative ministry and social justice advocacy.

New Heretical Footprint in Puerto Rico

In a move signaling shifting religious landscapes in the Hispanic Caribbean, the first "Ideal" “Church” of Scientology in the Caribbean officially opened its doors in the Santurce district of San Juan. While not part of the traditional ecumenical councils, the launch featured interfaith participants and facilities designed for both religious services and community-oriented humanitarian programs.
