Headline: Caribbean Delegation Witnesses for Women’s Justice at UN (CSW70)
A significant delegation of Caribbean church leaders and laywomen is currently in New York for the 70th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), which began on March 9. Representing the Anglican Province of the West Indies and various ecumenical bodies, the delegation is advocating for systemic changes in how justice systems serve women and girls across the islands.
The group is highlighting unique regional challenges, including the impact of climate displacement on women and the need for stronger faith-based legal protections against domestic violence.
Ecumenical & Denominational Moves
Trinidadian Pastor Reflects on 1,700 Years of the Nicene Creed
The Rt. Rev. Joy Evelyn Abdul-Mohan, of the Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago, has been featured by the World Council of Churches this week (March 18) for her work on the "Nicaea 2025" ecumenical project.
Bishop Abdul-Mohan is calling for a "decolonial theology" that reflects the Caribbean’s multicultural reality. She argues that the ancient creeds must be lived out today by standing in solidarity with the marginalized, specifically calling on churches to protect the rights of migrant children in the region.
New Leadership Installation in Northern Jamaica
The ecclesiastical landscape in Jamaica continues to evolve as Pastor Onyeka Nevins was officially installed this week as the leader of the newly formed Word of Hope District. This move is part of a broader denominational restructuring aimed at better-serving rural communities in Trelawny and St. Ann through decentralized "District Hubs."
Regional Mission & Church Growth
"Fresh Expressions" Movement Hits the Caribbean
Church leaders from across the Caribbean recently returned from the Fresh Expressions United Methodist National Gathering with a new mandate for "unusual settings." The movement is gaining traction in urban centers like Kingston and Port of Spain, where ministries are being launched in yoga studios, community centers, and digital spaces to reach youth who are disconnected from traditional pews.
Youth Sunday and Consecration in Guyana
RCCG Potter’s House Guyana hosted a major "Youth Sunday" and Consecration event on March 15. The gathering focused on the theme of "Honouring the Creator in Youth," addressing the specific mental health and vocational challenges facing young Christians in Georgetown and Linden.
