Caribbean Church Update: Reparations and Relief
Vol. 1 | Issue 10
A weekly roundup of significant happenings, moves, and missions across the Caribbean’s Christian and ecumenical landscape.
Headline: Archbishop of West Indies Backs Major Reparations Initiative
In a landmark move for the region, The Most Rev. Philip Wright, Archbishop of the Church in the Province of the West Indies (CPWI), has officially backed the Church of England’s Project Spire. This £100 million initiative seeks to address the historical legacy of the transatlantic slave trade through reparative justice rather than symbolic apology.
Speaking at the "Breaking the Chains of Injustice" event, Archbishop Wright warned that without tangible action, apologies risk becoming "empty rhetoric." He called for the funds to be used for building new schools and hospitals in the Caribbean, emphasizing that the church's credibility is at stake.

Despite the challenges of the last decade, Harvey expressed "tremendous hope" for the future of the Church in Grenada, citing a more engaged laity and a stronger synodal focus.
